Today House Republicans passed their Tax Scam bill. Then it will go to the Senate, and it may come back to the House because it is not until both houses agree on the details, that 45 will sign it into law. There are so many things wrong with this bill, that they can’t be listed in this short blog.. It cuts Medicare, increases the deficit by $1.5 trillion, will result in 13 million Americans losing health insurance, will result in an increase in premiums for everyone (even if you have your own insurance without the ACA), cuts school lunches for poor kids, and cuts deductions for college tuition. . But, here are a couple of things that haven’t’ made the news. It cuts out the deduction teachers can take for the supplies they buy! And, it repeals tax credits that subsidize business’ first-year wage costs for veterans. That’s right. It takes away an incentive for giving veterans a chance (also applies to the poor, ex-prisoners, and kids working summer jobs). Check-out this link for more:
How exactly is this serving our interests? Oh, yeah, big corporations and the wealthy get giant tax cuts that they can distribute to their shareholders and CEOs while we pray these profits trickle down to us so we can afford our increased insurance premiums, tuition costs, medical costs and taxes! Vets and kids looking for summer work can learn how to hustle. If you or the people you care about will be affected by this contract with the Devil (dressed as wealthy GOP donors who have threatened to pull their donations if they don’t get their way), you need to make a simple call. This is YOUR life. A lot of noise can change the destiny of this monstrosity. So, call Congressman Knight’s office and say something like:
I’m a vet [or I’m calling on behalf of a vet I care about] and I’m shocked at the way the GOP tax bill takes away the incentive for businesses to hire vets.
I’m a teacher [or I’m calling on behalf of a teacher I care about] and I’m shocked at the way the GOP tax bill takes away the incentive for teachers to buy supplies for their students.
I’m a parent and I’m shocked at the way the GOP tax bill takes away the incentive for businesses to hire kids for the summer.
