On September 27 I posted about AB569 that would protect women from losing their jobs simply because their views and family choices do not align with their place of employment. Teri James was fired from her job as a financial aid specialist because her boss didn’t approve of the fact that she was pregnant and wasn’t married. Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco required teachers in local Catholic schools to sign a morality clause to ensure they did not have sex outside of marriage, which was deemed “gravely evil’. I googled this bill and saw that right wing advocates are trying really hard to stop this protection from becoming law.
NARAL is taking the lead in this fight with the kind of exercise that makes activism fun:
To get Gov. Brown’s attention, we’re getting creative. We’ve signed petitions, we’ve called his office—and now we’re sending faxes to urge him to stand for reproductive freedom and economic security.
We’re going to make sure Gov. Brown can’t turn around without hearing from NARAL Pro-Choice California members about why he needs to sign this bill. We’re teaming up with our progressive coalition partners Courage Campaign and Ultra Violet to mobilize grassroots activists in the state and we can’t do this without you.
With hundreds of bills on his desk, we need to make sure he knows how important it is to ensure that all Californians can access the reproductive healthcare they need without jeopardizing their jobs.
