DAA Indivisible: Calls for a Special Prosecutor

Sorry this is a little wordy, but your participation is really important at this moment of national crisis, and you need to know the status,  I received a missive from Indivisible leadership, a knowledgeable group of former Democratic congressional staffers, regarding what to do about the stalled Russia investigation:

They say it is time to demand that a special prosecutor be appointed to continue the investigation. Our Senators should be doing all they can to ensure that this happens. Feinstein & Harris  are close and we should be proud of their leadership. Nonetheless, Indivisible suggests that we demand that our Senators withhold consent and filibuster all Senate business until a special prosecutor is in place.

FYI, before the Comey firing, Indivisible called for an independent prosecutor, but now  believes that the key people who would be handling the investigation are compromised, so Indivisible is throwing its lot with those who want the  Department of Justice to appoint a special prosecutor (the Watergate route). It won’t happen without pressure, so the best option is to use our leverage in the Senate to pressure the Department of Justice to appoint a special prosecutor.

Here is what Feinstein, top Dem on the Judiciary Committee says: “I … support Senator Durbin’s call for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign if he is unwilling to appoint a special counsel.” I spoke with Feinstein’s staffer who says Feinstein has not yet reached the point of ‘withhold consent and filibuster”.   https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?id=A0311C7A-DE88-417E-8A98-26AB6D4BD5FF

I spoke with Kamala Harris’ staffer who says Harris also called for the appointment of a special prosecutor (plus the resignation of Jeff Sessions). Because it is ‘such a big decision’ she is not quite to the point of ‘withhold consent and filibuster.’

Based upon my conversations with their staffers, I think our Senators are waiting for more Republican support . These are tough times and we are proposing aggressive behavior, so both Senators really need to know they have our support.  The staffers are great, and will happily take your messages, so please participate in this moment of history, and call.

When you call each Senator’s office say something like: Regarding the failure of efforts to investigate administration ties to Russia, I support withholding consent and filibustering all Senate business until a special prosecutor is in place.
