SATURDAY, APRIL 22 – EARTH DAY MARCH FOR SCIENCE in Los Angeles
In coordination with D.C., Los Angeles is holding a March for Science on Earth Day.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 22, marchers will gather at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the role that science plays in protecting the environment and overall human happiness. Attendees can also sign-up to volunteer before and after the event.

This march will likely be the largest assembly of scientists and science advocates in history. Prior to the march, organizers are urging scientists to distribute, share and educate others about their research, work and findings.

If you’d like to attend what is likely to be a historical march, we recommend bringing water bottles, snacks and wearing comfortable shoes. Don’t forget to arrive early if you want to be near the front of the march line.

For additional updates, be sure to check their Facebook page.

GETTING THERE FROM SCV –
RED LINE from the N. Hollywood station (5412 Lankershim Blvd). Trains run every 12-15 minutes and let you off at Pershing Square. (Use a TAP card that you can get at the Canyon Country Library and Community Center for $2 if you don’t have one, and a $10 load onto the card to travel unlimited for one day. If you have one and you load at the station, its about $2 each way, but there may be lines). Takes about a half hour to get to N. Hollywood from SCV and another 24 minutes on the train to Pershing Square. I understand parking is $3. More info here: https://www.transit.wiki/Los_Angeles_Metro_Rail_Red_Line
.
METROLINK: I tried the Metro Link from SCV for the Tax March last week-end and it was easy. You don’t use gas to get to N. Hollywood, and there are no parking fees. Main problem, Saturday’s march is supposed to start at 9AM, and they usually take a little time to actually start moving.. There aren’t many Saturday MetroLink trains, only 7:25AM and then 10AM. It takes exactly an hour, and if you’re an early bird and are happy to get to the Pershing Square at around 8:30AM, this is the way to go. The marches end at the Civic center, where you can catch the Red Line back to Union Station and transfer to the MetroLink train. If you’re a senior you get a nice discount $7.50 RT. Otherwise, get a Week-End Pass, $10.00.

METROLINK DIRECTIONS TO PERSHING SQUARE – Get your tickets on the platform ahead of time
Buy tickets on the platform ahead of time – the MetroLink ticket you buy at the station has a transfer (online app does not).
Pick up the train at either Via Princessa station, Santa Clarita station (on Soledad) or Jan Heidt Station in Newhall. Schedules, prices, locations are here: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/home/ (I hear the week end rate is better but you have to buy on Saturday).
Transfer at Union Station to the Red Line to Pershing Square with your same ticket..When you get off MetroLink you walk downstairs and follow the signs…the crowds will lead you – the hall that goes to the Red Line is near the Union Station Starbucks – Pershing Square is just a couple of stops.
